Re: F-150 oxygen sensor

Yes it is and would have to be crazy to pay that.At this same shop my wife took her 2003 buick regal in to get the a/c fan replaced and received a quote of $275.00 so she agreed and left it to be p/u later. Then she received a phone call from them stating that the only part they could find to fix it would raise the cost to $975.00!Hmm sort of steep so she told them not to replace it she'd live with the sound it was making. An hour later they called back and said they found an aftermarket part and the cost went down to $575.00.She told them the same thing no.So she goes to p/u the vehicle and they had found a after market part and did the repair for the original $275.00!!! but no warrenty.I guess they saw a woman and figured they could get away with this b/s.
As for info on trk it's a 2003 with 3.0L v6 with 108.000 miles on it and runs well in fact the service engine lites been on since 2004.The emission place I take it to turns of f the lite and I come back 2 days later and it passes.
I just replaced the original battery last month, squeezed all the life out of it I could.

Re: F-150 oxygen sensor

the 02 sensor should only cost around 80 dollars for a bosch.....an oe one would cost a lot more.most shops in my area use aftermarket.plus diagnostic charge plus labor to install.f150 with 3.0?what kind of noise?at that mileage probably good to replace all 02s if original.what code number?

Re: F-150 oxygen sensor

Sorry to sound out of place, but what does an O2 Sensor do? I know for outboards in boats they have a Carbon Monoxide Blower, but I have never heard of an Oxygen sensor.

Basically, trying to make it simple, the O2 sensor, as the name says, checks the oxygen going into the cat and coming out of it. there are several uses to this. First, the O2 sensor can tell you if the cat is good or not. Secondly, the O2 sensor is what the PCM uses to make sure the engine is getting the right amount of fuel. Through the O2 sensor, the PCM can tell whether or not the car is running rich or lean. Thus, changing the amount of fuel or air, depending on the need.

Not necessarily. I have actually seen it go both ways. I've seen some engine lights come off, but other times it needed to be cleared. Hopefully it will turn off automatically, But if it does not, before you clear the code, make sure the O2 sensor was bad, and not something else. O2 sensor checks many things, so if PCM says its bad, it might be because of an exhaust leak or something else.
Good luck!
