Newbie Help needed

Hi All

I am very new to car modelling and got a few quick question

I am planning to get a 1:24 plastic model to start out, I saw the thread on how to remove the bonnet but is it possible to create a hinge so that it open and closes?

Lastly, where can I get 1:24 engine/parts(turbo, intercooler etc etc)

Re: Newbie Help needed

First off, Hi and welcome.

There should be a few tutorials on the forum somewhere, all you need to do is have a look around.

In relation to aftermarket parts, there are quite a few vendors that sell them, again just do a search in other peoples threads, and you are bound to come up with some of them.

Sorry that I'm not very helpful, its just that I'm not sure if linking to other sites, or forums is allowed on here.

Best of luck with your project, and happy building.

First of all.. i think you should try to finish some models before try to opening hoods and doors.. it's not that easy to modeling car, try to improve your basic techniques like painting and fixing some small issues that you might face..

Welcome to modeling and good lucky!.. I'll look forward to your cars

Regards

Re: Newbie Help needed

It would certainly help to gain some experience first, however, I did build an Airwolf helicopter model which I cut the side off & made the door opened up. I used the flexible part (living hinge) of a cheapo CD case for this. Might not work on a car, but it did the trick for me on this one...

BTW, this was my 2nd model built after not being into it since I was a kid, & I think it turned out ok...
Good luck!

Re: Newbie Help needed

Revell make the New Beetle in the same scale, but in my opinion its not as good a kit as the Tamiya version.

Re: Newbie Help needed

I've found some on ebay, don't know the sellers, so you should try to do some contact before close the deal

Re: Newbie Help needed

If i was you i would build some models with engine detail so you get an idea on how the hinges work on those kits and then you could try and replicate it yourself. But in my opinion i wouldn't just dive into cutting hood open and making a hinge. Theres more to it than just that.

Good luck, some kits i suggest would be tamiyas 300zx, r32 skyline. Revell charger, they all have opening hoods. You could get some input from them. Good luck.

Check out the tutorial thread here on AF i think it has a thread on hinging hoods and cutting them out.

Your prior post wasn't "gone", it was sent to moderation due to having several hyperlinks (possible spam concern). Since you've followed up with the same request, I've gone ahead and deleted the moderated post.

Hey mate

welcome to the forum and to scale modeling!

i agree with crisjr, i would get a few kits under your belt first and get a feel for modeling before tackling hinges

Don't forget to post up progress of your builds!

Jason

Thanks, I know where to get the beetle but not the silvia s13 with sr20 engine

Thanks all for the suggestion and help, I bought an Aoshima ae86 with 4A-geu engine in it. I will build this up first before modding anything, hopefully all goes well

May I know what sort of glue should i use on the clear parts and the plastic bits?
