Newbie here! Need help with Painting!

I have been talking to people and reading here on the site, which is awesome by the way, that people are getting great results painting from a can. I have built 4 or 5 models using spray cans and the last one actually turned out not bad. Just want to get some opinions on the subject. I have a Revell 2001 Corvette Z06 that i just painted. I put on 4 coats of clear and it looks pretty good but i want to polish it and make it look even better. I'm afraid I might mess it up though. What do you think?

Before doing any polishing or compounding, let the finish dry for at least a week, if speed drying, I let mine dry under three 60 watt bulbs for 48hrs, you may want it to dry longer if you put on alot of clear coat, then wet sand, using very high grit paper, I used to start off with 1500 or 2000 and go up from there, ending in 12000 grit. I'm able to get good enough paint jobs that it dosen't require it anymore, just a very light going over with 3M rubbing compound ( be carefull, it has petroleum distilates in it and will etch the paint, it will look streaky and foggy) then I follow up with plain old turtle wax out of the bottle (very important that it's regular fromula TURTLE WAX brand), it works extremely well for some reason, no finger prints, glossy finish that even resists attack from spilled or splattered paint.
