04 silverado 246 tansfer case
Hey, I have a 04 1500 silverado 4x4 with transfer case problems. Had it scanned at the dealership with the codes c0327 and c0374. the dearlership said it was the transfer case motor was bad. I unhooked the NEG. cable off battary and replaced the transfer case motor and 2 hours later i was done. But now you can hear tranfer case motor shifting at tranfer now and along with the axle actuator engageing. but still no 4x4? is there a way to check the transfer chain w/o tearing it apart or should i be looking for something else being wrong?

the locking actuator locks the front axle so it is one axle. c0374 means you could have other problems . the computer senses slipage and the vehicle in 4wd should not be slipping. the encoder motor you installed can be defective, the wiring may be defective, the encoder motor may not have been properly connected to the transfercase fork. |

when the fluid turns a gray blue color its time to change this fluid. 30-40,ooo mi I do this. however replacing the fluid is dependent of use. some who use the vehicle for plowing heavy towing replace more often. torque the fill drain plugs 12ft lbs max ...you can crack the case if too much torque. use thread sealant , don't use teflon tape. |

I changed the the fluid today put in the pretty blue auto-trax ll, 2 quarts@ $9.00 each and drove it for awhile then took it out back in the soggy wet grass and I got stuck it didn't help none at all. Here's a question: With the front drive shaft disconnected and the transfer case in 4H should i be able to rotate the front output shaft on the transfer by hand? Any ideas? Re: 04 silverado 246 tansfer case
I do not think that you should be able to turn the front output shaft when any 4wd is selected. When "auto" 4wd is selected it may be possible. It sounds like, as j cAT said, that the internal clutches are toast.

worn clutches are common. make sure all tires are rotated and the same wear/size. rotate tires 10-15,ooomiles. check fluid at every 5,ooomi for blue color. never operate in any 4wd position on dry solid pavement. this is part time 4wd. that includes AUTO 4wd... |

Re: 04 silverado 246 tansfer case
Well after i posted here and learned a few things. I figered that the clutches was worn out and never really gave it much though about it. figurer I would worry about it when i get ready to work on it, BUT the other morning I get in the truck togo work I noticed that the light was on for 4LOW. Thought HMMMM..... so i took off and it was actually in 4 LOW, so i stopped and put the truck in N and let it roll a little and pushed 2H the light flashed for about 20 sec. and then it did nothing!!(sevice 4WD can on) Then after a little while of trying. it finally shifted into 2H. so now i dont know what to think about it. The tranfer still works but not when i need it to.
Any opinion?? |

Re: 04 silverado 246 tansfer case
get the 4wd codes checked. donot know why on first starting you where in LO 4wd .
I would just for the hell of it replace the 4wd select sw. or at least resolder those joints on the switch pins to circuit board. this is a poor Q.C. item. |

Re: 04 silverado 246 tansfer case
I just got done take the switch out and apart and the solder joints on the pins looked great no cracks or burnt spot. yeah like i said frist thing that morning 4LO light was on and it was in 4LO and you could tell it to. later that day when i got home i took it out back in the wet grass and tried 4H and nothing i was stuck. GRRR..... the last time i got the codes pulled i had c0327 and c0374 so i replaced the tranfer case motor and the autotrac fluid.

Re: 04 silverado 246 tansfer case
I know about the prior issue and work done.
as mentioned before the clutch in the transfercase is worn out. there fore no front to rear axle connection just 2 wd. rear wheels. going into another drive position by itself , I don't know. |
