Chev Aveo Lock Stopped Chirping

My wife's 2005 Chev Aveo has stopped chirping when she uses the remote lock. I've checked the fuses. I disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and reconnected it. The horn works fine. The power door locks are all working just fine. Any advice would be appreciared. Is the chirp produced by a separate device or does the horn somehow produce it?

Thanks,

Grouseman

Re: Chev Aveo Lock Stopped Chirping

GM has released bulliten #06-08-56-001 for the hood contact switch and connector terminals getting corroded preventing the security system to arm. This may be your problem.

Re: Chev Aveo Lock Stopped Chirping

Thanks. Where do I find bulletin #06-08-56-001 and does it show where the hood contact switch and connector terminals are located? How do I know it just isn't the chirper not working? Do you know where the chirper is located?

Re: Chev Aveo Lock Stopped Chirping

The GM system chirps the horn. The switch will be along the area when the hood meets the body, under the hood. Possibly on the ft support towards the radiator, don't know for sure. It'll be a plunger type of switch that closes when the hood is closed. You'll have to go to you're dealer and ask for a copy of that bulliten, unless you can find it online.

#06-08-56-001: Security System Will Not Arm When Using Remote Transmitter (Repair Hood Contact Switch Connector Terminals) - (Jul 1, 2011)

Subject:Security System Will Not Arm When Using Remote Transmitter (Repair Hood Contact Switch Connector Terminals)

Models:2004-2006 Chevrolet Aveo, Optra
2005-2006 Pontiac Wave (Canada Only)

Condition

Some customers may comment that security system does not arm with the remote transmitter.
Cause

This condition may be caused by corrosion of the electrical contacts inside the hood contact switch connector on the front wiring harness.
Correction

Replace the hood contact switch and hood contact switch connector terminals attached to the front wiring harness using the following procedure:

1. Remove the hood contact switch
2. Disconnect the hood contact switch from the hood contact switch connector on the front wiring harness. Discard the old switch.

Notice Be careful not to damage the hood contact switch connector when opening.
3. Gently open the connector and carefully remove the two terminals from the white connector body.
4. Replace the existing terminals with new Yazaki 7116-1473 terminals from Tray 10 of the J 38125-C Terminal Repair Kit. Refer to Repairing Connector Terminals in SI.
5. Reassemble the connector.
6. Connect the new hood contact switch to the hood contact switch connector on the front wiring harness. Apply electrical tape to protect this connection.
7. Install the new hood contact switch.
8. Verify the repair. Operate the remote keyless entry function by pressing the lock/unlock button(s).

Re: Chev Aveo Lock Stopped Chirping

Dear gmtech1. You are brilliant. Per your diagram I found and removed the hood switch. I checked it with my volt/ohm metre and it was not closing when I depressed the plunger. I took it apart and cleaned the contacts and it tested OK. I put it back in the car and everything works perfectly.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give me advice.

Sincerely, Grouseman
