Passlock question

I did a search on my issue and wasn't able to find anything specific to my problem. I have a 97 Sunfire that had issues with the Passlock stuff stalling the car and not letting it start. I ending up having the dealer replace the ignition lock cylinder and haven't had a problem since (knock on wood several times!!!). This was actually back towards the end of 2009. My step-daughter uses the car and I do not drive it. She recently brought up the fact that the keys do not work in the doors or trunk, but work in the ignition. This holds true for the spare too. She has no clue how long it has been like this since she always uses the factory remote to open the car. Could this be anyway related to the Passlock issue? I asked the dealer and they said no, to try and lube the locks. I tried that on the trunk with no success. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Re: Passlock question

I believe there is only one key for this vehicle....it doesn't use a seperate key for the doors......if they replaced the key and coded it differently, it won't open the doors.....

What you can try is this......go back to the dealership, and tell them you lost your key.....they should have the original key code, by looking up your VIN#.....have them cut a key from the original code(don't give them your your key to copy).....then see if this key opens the door.....

P.S. If you have your repair bill, see if they charged you for a new key...if they did, that is your problem....

Re: Passlock question

Correct, there is only one key to the car for everything. Both the normal and the spare will work the ignition, just not the doors and trunk. I looked on the bill, nothing listed for a new key, only recoding for the key. If they recoded the ignition for the original keys we have, and they operate the ignition, it should still open the doors and trunk right?

Re: Passlock question

Yes it should...but are you the "original" owner?

If not, that key/lock cylinder/PassLock module could have been replaced before you bought the vehicle....it's pssible the keys were changed then...

If you are not the original owner, get a key cut from the VIN#.....they are cheap.....might work on the doors/trunk....

One of these days, that remote won't work....

Re: Passlock question

The remote eventually not working is one of my worries. Thanks for the help.
