passlock question
i took my 2001 grand am to the mechanic friday to bypass my passlock system which i assumed was passlock 1.The Mechanic said it was passlock 3 and could not be bypassed(he also said he could not find any codes for it).He reccomended taking apart the steering wheel and disconnecting something(i dont remember what).Does this sound legit?I guess it would only cost $30-$40.Any help would be appreciated.

Re: passlock question
Why do you want it bypassed in the first place? It can be bypassed (alarm installers do it all the time when the customer wants remote start) and unless you have the optional security system it's more likely passlock 2 instead of the passlock 3 transponder system.

i wanted it bypassed because ive had the common problem of it all of a sudden just wont start.sometimes the 10 minute wait with key in on position works but last time it didn't.

Re: passlock question
You have the PK2 system and not PK3. It sounds like you need to take it to a dealer or someone that has and actual tech2 scanner to read PK2 codes.
Also, disconnecting anything on the PK2 system will not help. Actually, it will either keep it from starting at all or the security light stays on. Yes, I own a shop that specializes in remote starters.
