fuel priming question

I have a 91 grand voyager 3.3 and wanted to know ---if You turn the key on to accessory several times and hear fuel pump(never ever starting engine),then, after enough key turns and priming does it not prime or buzz at times since it is under full pressure or is it supposed to do it even if its done again and again and again in 10 or 20 second intervals?

Re: fuel priming question

pcm sees ignition is on position and grounds relay to prime rail.if turn key to off position for 10 seconds and back on it should ground relay and pump should run for 2 seconds.what seems to be your problem......intermittent no start?

Re: fuel priming question

I had just put another pump in and found that at times it was making the priming noise (kicking in at start up)and other times when testing it it was not..also checked pump relay and ASD relay..
-It was cutting out off and on some and then just turning over then it would start after a few...was odd...
Doing ok now since i replaced the relays and rewired harness(bad connection )..

But when i turn it to key on -aux then off again and again ,was not sure ,after about 5 times on/off -if it does not buzz (pump)if that is a sign of the possible short i may have had .or is it normal after so many on off(immediate) to quit priming.-?
Note-after the time it quit priming(buzzing) it still started

Re: fuel priming question

there has to be so many seconds between off and on.5-10 seconds?it does not matter as long as there is the initial prime of fuel rail on start up.

Re: fuel priming question

right.....when you turn key to on position the design key on engine off fuel pressure should be met.........hook up fuel pressure gauge to see if there is a problem.you should not have to turn key on and off ect to build up pressure.fuel pumps create volume and regulator creates pressure by causing a restriction.are you having starting problems? If you turn key to on position first time to start and dont hear pump run then may be a electrical issue or a connection issue.
