trunk still leaking

GOD DAMMIT....lol So i still cant figure out where the trunk is leaking...but now its leaking into the back seat and into carpet. I think its the rear window seal or maybe like someone else sugested the bolts that hold the molding down on the soft top. I pulled the trim off and everything looked good back there...i also have water coming in the front of the car just small dops but i think that the winshield seal maybe...anyway im super bumbed about this...has anyone else had this problem and what can i do about it. Ive concluded that water is cming in not because of the trunk leak but something to do with the rear window or soft top.???

these are signs of this vehicle is not going to be around much longer. the trunk leak is common when these get 10 yrs old when the leaks are around the windsield area this will be quite a lot of work. removal of the glass and then seeing if the vehicle is worth patching up.

short term with dow 795 sealant you can stop these leaks for a time around the glass. with the metal corroding everywhere this would require much work/expense.

soft top vinyl top are well known for rusting thru the roof.

I ordered my vehicle with no vinyl top because of those issues back in the old days.

all sealants are not equal dow 795 is a glass to metal sealant.used overprimed metal .

This is also another common weak point on these cars. While looking for a used front door for my 89 at the junk yard, I noticed that all the caprices seemed to have a weak spot in this area. When you open the door all the way and then try to open a little bit more, you can see it flex where the glass frame goes into the door. I got lucky, I kept looking and found a rust free door that did not have this problem. I'm quessing that the passenger side door on that car was not used a lot.
As jcat said, if the rust is not dealt with soon and the water continues to pour into your car, it won't last much longer.

Re: trunk still leaking

I see you fixed the issue but just for another idea of where i found my leak i'll refer you to a thread i made a long time ago. Mine still leaks despite how good i thought the patch was...its probably the actual window seal itself. I have plans to get my car painted this summer but MAN is it gonna take some work to fix the leak the right way. (like someone said you need to remove the rear window.)

Not sure if this link will work but try it.

As for the leaks in the front of your car..i have the same issues with mine. I think its coming between the firewall and airbox..the seal seems to have disintegrated. Easy fix with some silicone. However, this isn't the only culprit to my leaks. If you open the hood and look at both corners of the firewall near the top, and under the metal peg (where the hood will sit on) i found rust under that, probably due to leaves and crap building up. This was causing water to leak on top of my fuse box . I sealed that up with fiberglass (it was a very hard spot to do this) and at least THAT leak seems to be solved for now.
