92 Accord trunk water leak

This might sound stupid but it is my worst nightmare. First the right side tail light seal went bad. Replaced and no more water, but of course one month later I have water again. Now the left side tail light seal went bad. OK now I am good. WRONG . I actually crawled in this time and had someone run water over the rear window, all around the trunk and lights and can't find a leak anywhere. However, when it rains the next day I will open the trunk and my carpet is wet and the left side has water puddled up.

Any ideas? The only thing I can possibly come up with is the antenna has a slow leak. it is aftermarket and the people who I bought it from did a crappy job putting it in.

Does your trunk lid have a spoiler on it ? My daughters does and the mounts were where it was leaking. A tube of flowable silicone fixed it.

Re: 92 Accord trunk water leak

Had the same issue couple years ago. It's the air vent port in the trunk. It's on the left side, below the antenna. If you pull the left side cover in the trunk, you will see it.

Ok, it's a plastic, rectangular part with a film on it, screwed on from outside onto the rear left quarter panel. The culprit is its seal.

To replace the seal, you need to loosen the rear bumper on the left side (couple screws) and pull away or down to get access. I just used some weather stipe bought at Home Depot as the seal. Works perfectly. Have fun and enjoy a dry trunk.

Re: 92 Accord trunk water leak

I gooped the heck out of the vent before I read this. So far so good. I also thought the antenna was a possibility. After market and a terrible job of instyall. I think I will take this thing apart and do the right thing with the gasket. Appreciate it. I am glad someone else had this problem as well. It sucks trying to find these things sometimes.

By the way, there is no spoiler. Appreciate it.
