Revell bmw z8m csl

Well this is one of many cars that i have been working on for some time now, more as side a side project that i would like to share. It is basically a restoration project as i got it in semi-completed but in a very bad shape, almost unusable for anything but i didn’t give up. I guess the title doesn’t make much sense as such car, a z8m or even a csl version never existed but let me explain i think that the designers of the z8 made a good job by making a modern version of the 507 bmw, but somehow it looks to me like a car that only girls look good in it.. it is missing testosterone so i tried to make it look more aggressive with a custom body kit, something that maybe would represent an ¨m¨ car if such car was planned to be build and i were the designer
The real thing

My work

i hate the look of the soft top that comes with the kit and even the hard top of the real car so i decided to just make a custom roof instead. It is made out of a corvette z06 front, viper soft top back and styrene side walls

Some bad reaction under primer after letting it dry under the sun

i first planned to make a removable top but then i just made a coupe instead with improved design

after A LOT of minor repairs all over the body i finally were able to put primer on again

i did some quick photoshop versions with different collors as i had a hard time to decide which one to choose.. just an example

Top of the roof will be carbon, not sure about the front end and the splitter
I already painted the body but no pictures of it yet.. it is not purple I will show it once i clear coat it, but it is a custom mix of some tamiya acryls i have in stock. Looks kind of unusual but i like it
so much for now, hope you like it

Wow amazing scratch building skill. I really like the side skirt and rear bumper. What putty do you use?

Re: Revell bmw z8m csl

Thnx! I am using some standart 2k polyester putty for the body kit(not sure about the manufacturer but they are all more or less the same so it doesent matter) and tamiya white putty for smaller corrections.. Although i plan to use epoxy putty in the future for such modifications

Re: Revell bmw z8m csl

Thnx guys! Well, finally i was able to do some more work 8) First i put modeler´s carbon decal on the roof and front splitter and than i clear coated it with automotive 2k. Although some dust particles were trapped in it which i will be able to remove through sanding and polishing, i am very happy with the result

Its a minor detail, but i was very careful with the front splitter so that the carbon pattern was symetrical

The evolution of the dodge viper rim i might use for this project.. still need to do some work on the center

Wow! It looks really cool now! It certainly has plenty of that testosterone you were talking about - well done. I look forward to further updates

Re: Revell bmw z8m csl

Glad you like it Anyway, i was able to do some more work today.. i was really wondering how more experienced builders would solve this masking problem, but than in the end i just decided to rely on my ¨augenmass¨ and do it my way.. i used a thin cut stripe of masking tape for the outside and liquid film for the more difficult area

I think it´s close enough

Great progress. The front lights came out sweet, i would've done them the same way. Sharpie markers also work pretty good and quick.
