2.4l p301

I have a 2000 olds alero 2.4l. i get 2 codes p301 and pending code 301.
service engine light and trac off light. it runs rough, exhaust smells like fuel.
I have used a multimeter on the coils, checked the primary and secondary resistance on the coils and they check out fine. I have also changed the plugs, the wires, flipped the coils, switched the fuel injectors around, still no change. it has been this way for a few weeks now. once it did run normal, no lights, smooth running, it ran good for about 15min. then the lights came back on. any ideas?

Re: 2.4l p301

Is this the Ecotec engine or the Quad Four engine?

Re: 2.4l p301

is the [trac off] light related to the engine problem?

Re: 2.4l p301

Trac Off comes on when when a misfire code is set....

Replaced wires? There are no wires....unless you mean the boots..

Checking coil resistance is only one test.....need to check coil output, that takes a set of test wires.....

One thing this vehicle has a problem with, is the tower cover.....this is the cover that the coils sit in.....

If the misfire is on cylinder#1, compression is ok, a new A/c delco plug is in there, try swapping the coils in the housing.....if you still get a misfire on #1, could be the housing....

After replacing that, if you still have a misfire, could be an injector problem....but I'm leaning towards the cover...

Re: 2.4l p301

and misfire doesn't mean not fire? also previous owner didn't tighten up the brake caliper bolts and 1 fell out so i put a new one in then the trac light went off...for a half hour, also the cel wasn't flashing...but i am putting in a new coil housing cover tonight...so hopefully it will be fixed
