2005 Pontiac Grand Am Hood latch will not open
I do not know if the cable itself is broken or if the lock itself is busted. I took my car to get its oil changed and the mechanics could not get the hood open so they could not get it done. I took it home and saw for myself that the hood latch in my car would not spring it open so i proceeded to checking the lock by hand hoping to be able to trigger the lock by manualy opening it, when i pull the latch that the cable is connected to (yes it is still connected but no resistance) nothing exactly happens the latch moves as it should but no other reactions, is my lock busted is there something wrong with the cable? i am completely confused here please help

Re: 2005 Pontiac Grand Am Hood latch will not open
If you can move the lever that is attached to the cable, it should open.....pull the lever to the side and have someone pull up on the hood.....BE CAREFUL OF YOUR FINGERS!
if it opens, lube the crap out of the latch....then use a screwdriver as a substitute for the "catch" on the hood, and close the latch.....hold onto the screwdriver(or it might go flying), and have someone pull on the cable release to see if the latch is lubed enough.... |

Re: 2005 Pontiac Grand Am Hood latch will not open
Personally, I'ld suggest: WD40 first, clean the rust! Ensure that it somewhat move ok enought (that mean the rust is mostly gone). THEN grease it up well!
It happened to me on my cavalier... parked for too long, batt drained... hood refused to open Fortunatelly a bit of banging and it opened...Sometime a good beating does help, with your hand that's it, while being carefull to not dent it up. Mechanics might not have tried the beating due to the risk of denting the hood. |
