Alero rear defogger

I realize this is a subject thats been beat to death, but I still have a problem. Wires are melted at the module behind the rear panel, so I replaced the plug. I have very low voltage at the plug (.2 volts). Replaced the relay and checked the fuse. Where to from here ???? Any help greatly appreciated since the atmosphere in the house gets very chilly when the future ex-wife has to scrap windows in the morn. Thanks

Did you replace the module? Do you have 12 volts at the inlet to the ribbons?

No to both. Any suggestions on how to disconnect the radio antenna? It appears to be permanetly attached to the module. Also, I'm getting no voltage to the ribbons. Also again, is a dealer the only source for the module, my local auto parts store has no listing for that part. Thanks again.

Didn't the melted wires cause a problem with the connections inside the module? The antenna should disconnect from it.....that melted together too? That module is probably a dealer item....also, not sure if this is the case, but for SOME moduels, that bolt that holds it in place,, acts as a ground.....make sure good and tight...

One problem is naturally, you don't have 12 volts to the inlet......you are going to have to work your way all the way back to the switch for the defogger....between that switch and the inlet to the ribbons, you might find a connector that is melted(especially if you have 12 volts out of the switch).....had that happen to the wifes's Sunfire.....no power to the ribbons, but had power out of the switch, when turned on......looking at a schematic, found that wire out of the switch went to a bulk connector.....it was melted because of poor contacts.......

Antenna is definetly permanetly attached (appears to be crimped) to the module, so I would like to get power to the module before I go any farther. Where is that connector between the switch and module located ?

I don't think it is. I have an 02 Alero and just fixed my defogger a few days ago (cut off the plug and soldered the wires straight on). At first I thought the antenna was permanently attached. I cut my fingers to ribbons trying to get it off. I used some needle nose pliers and carefully pulled on it - it came out. Its just a really tight connection.

If you're still having problems I would replace the whole module (if you haven't already). Also, check the smaller module on the other side - it might have a bad/corroded connection or something. I'd also try cleaning all the connections. Maybe the switch itself is broken?

if its still no0t owrking go to a local junkyard and pull one off a used one but make sure its not melted also they usually give that way without paying anything for it
