1997 Civic Starter Install Assistance Needed!
I need some guidance. I have a 1997 Civic EX that needs a starter. It is two hours away. Can someone well versed in this motor send me detailed instructions please. I want to make sure I have all tools needed.(I mean down to the size of wrenches and any major parts I may need to anticipate removing to get to it) I am going in blind due to the distance so details are great.
It broke down in a parking garage in a hospital where my grandson was born 10 weeks early. This is my daughters car so I want to get her back on the road asap since she live over 30 minutes and cannot to him each day! Thanks in advance. Joe

Re: 1997 Civic Starter Install Assistance Needed!
You will need 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm sockets and possibly wrenches, some extensions, and a philips & a flat head screw driver. Off the top of my head I can't think of what size you'll need for the batter terminal, but likely it will be a 10mm or 12mm.
You'll need to to remove the intake pipe. The starter is on the top rear side of the transmission, it should be fairly easy to get to with the intake pipe off. One bolt is on the top right of the starter, and the other is on the bottom left of it; both are 14mm and the nut holding the wire on is 12mm. |
