Bad injector?
97 park avenue 161,000 miles, developed a miss on cylinder 6. Pulled the plug and checked the wire, have spark on that cylinder. Disconnected the fuel injector wire on all cylinders, the only one that doesn't change in rpm is #6. Dirty injector? bad injector?
With the amount of miles i have, i'd like to pull them all and try and clean the injectors myself....just wondering if a DIY cleaning does any good. Anything else i should try before i attempt this? Thanks.... |

Re: Bad injector?
Check the injector resistance, 11.0.-12.5 ohms.

Re: Bad injector?
I've looked into DIY kits myself. I think the best kits use a combination of ultrasound and solvents, and operating the injectors. These kits are too pricey for a DIY, in my opinion. A good shop will clean the injectors and test them. I'd say that if an injector needs cleaning, that's money worth spending.
However, maxwedge's resistances check seems like a better place to start. I've never had to have injectors cleaned in one car with over 350000km and it runs fine and passes emissions tests. I'd suspect a mechanical failure of the injector before a dirty injector. |

Re: Bad injector?
Checked the ohms....everything good.....It was the one cylinder i didn't check the plug itself....pulled it out...tested it...bad plug....I picked up 1 new plug (7013 champion platinum) and replaced it....runs like new. The plugs only have 30,000 miles on them...they are supposed to be good for 40-60,000 miles. I'm gonna replace them all...any suggestions on a good replacement?

Re: Bad injector?
Each injector has a micro basket filter in the top of the injector. It is a tiny filter. You can see what they look like in this picture: http://www.bonanza.com/listings/Fuel...Bosch/14317873
It only takes a small amount of debris to clog these and prevent an injector from working properly. These filters are pressed in and can be easily removed using a brass wood screw to pull them out. The new filter presses in easily. |
