Burned CDs

Hello,

I was just wondering if a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix can play CD-RW discs. Because I used to be able to play burned CDs in mine but none of my new ones will play, so I'm trying to figure out if my new burn software isn't formatting right or if it's the CDs themselves.

According to wikipedia, CD-RW discs were introduced in 1997. CD-RW discs require a more sensitive laser optics. Also, CD-RWs cannot be read in some CD-ROM drives built prior to 1997. Wether or not it plays in your drive depends on if your drive is a "MultiRead"certified. I can't answer that, but I kind of doubt it. Just stick with the CD-Rs. They're so cheap now.

Re: Burned CDs

If recorded in a .WAV file, I think they will play....if recorded in .MP3 format, it won't play.....the CD player will have MP3 labelled on it to let you know it plays MP3's....

Re: Burned CDs

Well I tried converting to .wav file and other options and none of them worked. But I found a spare CD-R and that worked fine, so I guess the answer is no, it can't read CD-RWs.

Re: Burned CDs

CD-RW's are always dicey when it comes to playing in anything other than what they were burned on. CD-R's are usually much more widely accepted in other devices. Another issue with CD-RW's is they are much more susceptible to data degradation, especially when exposed to extremes in heat/cold and prolonged exposure to sunlight. This is why I rarely use them.
