Ignition Switch Replacement HELP, Please!!!

The Ignition Switch (Points) have gone bad on my 2000 Chevy Express Explorer Van. I'm trying to take the current ignition switch out but encountering problems. I removed the bottom cover, top cover won't come up due to Ignition Key ring "Trim". How do I remove the Key Ring Trim?? The Ignition Switch itself looks like it should come right out. I removed the Torq screw, removed the wire ties, undid the clips on both sides of the Switch Module but it still won't come off. Do I have to remove the Key Lock "Cylinder" first? I've searched the Internet for Hours trying to find info on this but to no avail. I really don't want to give up and use a Crow Bar or Take it to the Dealer, I just know I can conquer this with some help from friends in here.
Thanks ....Rocket

Remove upper and lower trim and turnsignal switch.
Upper trim you have to pull out and slide over key ring.
New or old style body?
Tilt wheel or std?
What size express and cab/chasie van?
Be carful removing key alarm switch.

Re: Ignition Switch Replacement HELP, Please!!!

Upper cover will not slide over the Key Ring Trim as the Trim is too big. Some say the Trim simply snaps off with a Screwdriver but that didn't work either. Maybe I need to remove the Ignition Cylinder first??

Its a 2000 Chevy 1500 Express LS Explorer Conversion van.
New body style ~ Tilt Wheel.

Sounds like you have the ign switch with the ign lock module.
I think on that one you have to pull steering and remove module with upper cover.
Got of compicated stuff replacing it.
I would suggest a factorry repair manual or a All Data on DIY repair sub.

Good idea. I'm off to the Library and Book store to find a Manual so I don't screw this up. Thanks ....Rocket
