heater hose question
Hey guys,
I have a 98 with dohc duratec engine about 166,000 miles. Today my heater hose , the hose that is metal with rubber ends on it, blew a hole. It is rusted and looks like it is original, so pretty glad it lasted this long I guess. First, getting it out is proving to be tough. With the larger engine, things are pretty tight in there. I removed the lower radiator hose to get to the heater hose, but the hose clamp it a bit difficult to get to. I guess I have to squeeze in there, I'm sure I can get it with a little work. My main question is that I have found the part on Advance Auto's website but it costs $154!!! , so I was wondering if I could just buy rubber heater hose and bend it around, trying not to kink it. Has anyone else tried this? Or do I NEED to buy the OE part? I really don't plan on keeping the car that much longer, but you know plans, that could mean another 5 years! Thanks for your help, Steve
