Could this be transmission related?

92 PA with 115000 miles. Every time I began to accelerate from zero to 40 mph, when and if I hit the gas pedal hard or suddenly, it feels like the front end jerks, and it jerks again if I quickly take my foot off the pedal. It doesn't jerk if I slowly and softly place my foot on the pedal to accelerate. If I'm above 40 mph and take my foot off the pedal, it doesn't jerk. I don't know if this is a rare occurrence in vehicles. Does this mean its time to change the transmission fluid or its low on fluid? I certainly don't want to think its the transmission gone bad and its time for a new one. However, whatever you master techs deem is the problem please let me know. Many thanks in advance.

Re: Could this be transmission related?

I've been fooled a couple of times thinking I had tranny trouble when all along it was plugs and wires. If you have a scantool you might be able to confirm it by looking at misses. Otherwise, you could simply change plugs and wires as a matter of routine maintenance.

Have you checked the left/front trans mount?

Re: Could this be transmission related?

What's the best way to check that mount HotZ28? Is that the same mount used from 92-99?

Re: Could this be transmission related?

Ask someone sit in the car with it running. Stand on each side of the car with the hood up and have the person put the car into drive, hold the brake down hard and quickly press the accelerator pedal down and release it. Watch your feet in case the car moves! Look for the engine and/or trans to jump up and fall back down while you look at the mounts. If one is torn or bad you should be able to notice it. After you check the mounts the trans fluid should be nice and warm, check the fuid level and condition with the engine running, trans in park.

Re: Could this be transmission related?

I know it's been a few months since I've posted this thread. Forgive me. Now I'm ready to tackle the job of replacing the mounts.

Its a 92 PA. How many mounts are there for this model?

I've noticed there are multiple mounts for this model but which is the correct one?

Is this a one man job that requires an engine hoist in an auto shop or can it be done in my driveway?

Can these parts be purchased from Autozone or any neighborhood auto part store?

Your information is always useful and dependable.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Could this be transmission related?

What mounts do you want you will need to identify which ones to buy them, this can be done using a floor jack, jack stands and a block of wood to support the engine /trans from underneath, any and all the parts stores should have what you need. Napa and Carquest would have pictures and locations in their catalogue

Re: Could this be transmission related?

You need the driver side front ( Transmissions Front Mount ), as well you need to look at the Dog Bone mount on the passenger side of the car( bottom of the trans, attached to the frame and Diff cover of the trans ).... Its very common for these 2 mounts to fail... Both of these are pretty cheap as well...
