4T60E GM transmission related advice

Hi there, my name is Cris and I have an Olds 88 LSS (same engine+tranny as leSabre or Bonneville), 1995, that recently has been serviced for a intake manifold and a drive belt tensioner. A new problem seems to showed up. The car has 116,000 miles and since 85,000 miles , when I got it, I never serviced transmission. few days ago I noticed that while the car shifts through gears normally, as the speed reaches 40-45 mph a grunt noise is heard. Going uphill I experienced vibration and low response from transmission. This was observed in 3rd gear and also in overdrive. Checked the transmission fluid- is clear (red), no smell. There is no warning light, and above 50 mph the car/transmission works fine. It is just in this range where I can hear the grunt noise: 40-45 miles. Can somebody help me with an advice? Is it a transmission problem or a solenoid?

Came back one day later with new info. Got into an AAMCO shop. The mechanic drove the car for 15 min and concluded that is the torque convertor that needs to be replaced, about 300$. In addition he suggests that I should rebuild the whole tranny since they believe that the cause could be internally(seal, wear and tear condition that generated this malfunctioning convertor). For this they want about 1,800$. What do you think? Anybody? Help....

$1800 hell wait till it blows. Then you can rebuilt it

I'd be willing to bet it is simply Torque Converter Clutch noise caused by the TCC Solinoid.

It doesn't mean that the solinoid or the clutch is damaged or malfunctioning. It is normal behavior for the 1995 4T60-T transmission. The older the car gets, the more noticeable the noise is due to wear on the clutch assembly, but that doesn't mean it is worn out.

I've got 175,000 on my 1995 LeSabre. Mine does it, and has been doing it for a long time. 4 years and 40,000 miles at least.

Rumor has it that it is caused by a programing change to the powertrain computer to achieve better gas milage. The TCC Solinoid controls the fluid flow the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch), which engages in both Drive (3rd) and Overdrive (4th) gears.

The TCC Solinoid is controlled by the computer. So simply put, the computer occationally opens/closes the TCC Solinoid when it shouldn't.

This usually occurs around the 2-3 shift point and more often the 3-4 shift point (or around 35 and 45 MPH with light throttle).

Does it happen during a heavy throttle upshift?
Do you have to give it lots of thottle at that speed to make it downshift?
If it does then it sounds like it could be a sticking solenoid. Not sure with the 4T60E. I'll see if I can find out more.

used tranny + intallation =$500.00 NY juck yark on my 92 lesabre run great.

yeah, I think I paid $487 installed for a used transmission for my 99 Camry. The nice thing was the used tranny only had 12K miles, and it came out of a lexus.
Oh well, sold the car a long time ago.
