Question shorted temp sensor

Still working on 92 deville; code indicates shorted temp sensor. Can this short cause the car to shut off. We tuned it up; it runs excellent, but, after it warms up it shuts off and I have to pull off the road and wait before I try to get going again. The computer was tested ok. I am at a loss trying to figure out what to do.

Is the electric coolant fan working?
What doe's the temp guage read?

1) Do a visual inspection on the CTS.
