Clock spring

97 GTP. I have to replace the clock spring but am having trouble locating the right one, as I have radio controls on the steering wheel. The part number on the one I removed is 26034978, but I can't find that number anywhere. Are these clock springs compatible with later year model grand prixs (the part numbers seem different when I search for grand prix clock springs on ebay)?

Re: Clock spring

My manual shows part number 26087275 for a 97 Grand Prix GTP, I don't know why the part number is different on yours.

Re: Clock spring

I will look into it. Also, does anyone know how the little horn contact mechanism works in the steering wheel? I think I broke it. I have a wire with one end that connects to the back of the air bag and on the other end is a black tube, then a spring over the wire and then a little metal contact at the end. It seems one of the small button-like projections broke off of the black tube, but I am not sure how it fits into the column.

Re: Clock spring

I am having trouble finding one with the radio control wiring. Will the SIR coil from a 98 grand prix work? It seems to be a different part # than the one for mine, but what would be the difference?

Re: Clock spring

I would say it will work, the part numbers differ only on the last digit, hopefully Tim, Bob or Rich can comment about it.

Oscar.

Re: Clock spring

Dorman sells one for your car, part number 525-006. It shows it as a clockspring for a GM truck, but maybe it works on your car. Kind of a spendy job, 113.09 at my job.
