97 GC Cruise Control Died, Clock spring?
The Cruise Control on my 97 GC worked one day and not the next. When I start the truck, the Cruse light flashes like normal. Is there some way to check to see if it is the switch or clockspring?
Thanks, Ted |

Got any body trans or engine codes? Post back code no.

Re: 97 GC Cruise Control Died, Clock spring?
The only codes that I know how to read is the Ign sw On-Off 3 times. I then get a 55 by counting the flashes. How do I access the Trans and BCM codes?
Thanks, Ted BTW, if it matters, it has the 3.8L/4speed and is a Canadian vehical. Thanks! Last edited by tedv; 02-19-2006 at 01:25 PM. |

Re: 97 GC Cruise Control Died, Clock spring?
A good commerical type engine scanner like a snapon MT-2500 red brick will scan engine, trans, body computers and do a test on the cruise switches an clock spring.
It takes a lot of guess work out of it and will pinpoint the problem. Most good repair shops have a good scanner. Good luck MT

Re: 97 GC Cruise Control Died, Clock spring?
Being that the Clockspring is covered by a Lifetime recall and mine hasn't been done, should I just take it to the dealership?
Thanks, Ted |

It would be a good idea to have them check it out.
May or not be the clock spring but they can check it and find out. Good luck and let us know how it goes. MT

Re: 97 GC Cruise Control Died, Clock spring?
The clock spring also involves the air bag, that is why it is covered under warrenty. I took my 97 caravan in after the cruise failed and the air bag light cam on. I would take it in. It does not take long to fix.

One other item to check is the brake light switch, on my 95, when the cruise does not want to work, I reach up there with my foot and tap the switch, then it works.

Re: 97 GC Cruise Control Died, Clock spring?
There were MANY recalls for your '97... many of them because the problems are life threatening... like leaking fuel rails that could cause your van to explode under the hood and burn your Caravan to the ground, or a problem with the fuel filler neck that could cause an explosion when you're filling up your tank, thus, potentially, turning your local gas station into one huge fireball. There are other less dramatic issues (like the clockspring fix which, among other things, also resolves the problem of your airbags going offline). Better get those incomplete and/or unperformed (and FREE) recall fixes checked out and taken care of right away... go here with the last 8 numbers of your VIN to find out if you're good to go and good luck!...
