Air filter question

I have an 02 pontiac grand prix gt and i bought a k&n replacement filter. I got it the other day and looked at the instructions. It told me i had to unhook three things or so before undoing the clips to put the new filter in. Is this necessary? Because I'm not too car savvy and i cant find these three parts.

If you can't find the parts, they might not exist on your vehicle. Have you tried opening up the air box (holding the air filter, should have something on location in the owner's manual) and removing the old filter yet?
