1997 Chevy S-10 Blazer - ODB Code P1870... suggestions?

The SES light came on yesterday, on my daughter's 1997 Chevy S-10 Blazer 4x4.

I drove it over to autozone this morning, listening to the engine and trying to feel for anything that was out of the ordinary... I could tell there was any problems.

When the Autozone guy scanned the code, it came up with (1) code - P1870 - Transmission component slipping (Transmission is in 4th gear with TCC engaged and the ECM has detected excessive slippage when comparing the input shaft speed to the output shaft speed.

Probably cause
1. - Trailer towing may set code
2. - Check transmission fluid
3. - Internal transmission fault.

She had to go to work this morning, so I haven't been able to check the tranny fluid leve... I did ask her if she has been towing anything and she said no... so I am not sure what it could be.

It drives fine... the only thing she did say is that is shook a lil last night when she was sitting at a light, but that only happened once for her.

Any one have any suggestions?

Proabley.
Time for a transmission rebuild/replace.
Unless you have a filter or low fluid problem.
Check the fluid level and condition and filter and let us know on that.
Any recent transmission work?

There's a little info about the common cause of the P1870 code in this thread:

Blaze has gave you one cause and fix for the code 1870.

But one thing is in you first post is engine shook a little one time.
A engine miss can cause the code.

Other causes beside internal slipage is.
Bad shift solenoid.
TCC solenoid.
TCCPW Solenoid.
Transmission range swith.
Or on a 97 bad engine switch.
Also On a 96-97 some had a bad ground in the computer that can cause the code that is covered by a TSB for them years.

In a nut shell there is many things that can give you that code.
Only proper testing and scanning with a good engine capable transmission/engine capable scanner by a good trained transmission man will tell you the main root cause/problem.

On the subject of valve body repair or repair kits.
If internal pressure leakage.
They may only be a band aid to the real problem if the problem is internal pressure leakage .
Internal pressure lose is the main cause of valve body wear.

High mileage 4l60e transmissions are prone to many internal leakage problems besides the other cause listed.
