Hi all.
I always have this fear when inflating my tires, thought I should ask car experts if my fear is warranted or not. Basically whenever I'm inflating a tire, I'm apprehensive and imagine and fear the tire exploding in my face. Is this scenario even possible? I did a bit of searching and people say a tire may explode while driving if it's over or under inflated, but my concern is exploding WHILE inflating the tire. My tires says a max 44 psi and I always inflate much less, around 32-35 (32 according to door panel), but I still fear a tire exploding. Appreciate any feedback about this, thanks. |

You'd have to be trying pretty hard to get the tire to explode if it isn't defective. If you're intent on being sure what PSI is the max for performance, call a dealer or tire shop and ask, they should be able to tell you for free. Then you can just pick up a pressure gauge for a buck or two and know for sure how much you have put in.

It CAN happen, but you would have to try pretty hard. I think usually it'll just break somewhere and blow out, not necessarily explode. You'd have to over inflate it by quite a bit. |

Re: Possible for a tire to explode during inflation?
Some of the " fix - a -flat " in a can products can be explosive and dangerous .Any time it is used , you should tell the tire technician before he starts dismounting the tire to repair or replace the tire . I have a friend ( that happened to be present at a service garage ) when a tech started to dismount a flat tire which the owner had used the before-mentioned product and didn't tell anyone . The tire exploded damaging the garage and injuring some of the customers ( none seriously ) ! So be careful !
