Sticky gas pedal

2005 Grand Caravan 3.3L 78,000 miles. I purchased the van this last Christmas. It is a great van in almost perfect condition with the exception of one thing. If I drive it around town there's no problems. If I drive it on rural roads at 40 to 50 mph there's no problems. But if I take it on the interstate at 65 to 70 with the cruise locked in for some distance then slow down letting the throttle completely close the gas pedal is then stuck and takes some force to open again. Then after some more non-highway driving it's back to normal. My first thoughts during the winter months was there was some frosting going on in the throttle body causing it to freeze shut during deceleration but today it's a balmy 58 global warming degrees and it still did it.

I've had this same problem with my Saturn when the throttle body gets gunked up and a quick cleaning takes care of it. But it does it ever time you step on the gas not just after highway speeds.

Re: Sticky gas pedal

The one thing that I can think to check is the cruise control cable, I have seen a couple of those cables start to frey at the end where it attaches to the throttle body, never seen it do what you are describing, but I could see how it could.

Re: Sticky gas pedal

I did a search and found in a different forum a guy that had my exact same symptoms. He cleaned the throttle body and all was good. I have the can of spray cleaner and will be doing it some night this week. Looks like about the easiest TB cleaning job I will ever do. I'll report back.

Re: Sticky gas pedal

Cleaned the throttle body and all is good. Simple repair that cost a can of spray from Walmart <$2. Took about 45 minutes.
