Question 05 GTP Issues...

I have an 05 GTP with 142,000 miles. More than 50% of the time when I start my car I have to press the gas to get it to start (as if it weren't fuel injected). I have already tried injector cleaner and fuel system cleaner. I burn nothing but Premium gas.

Yesterday, my SES light came on and the car started sputtering and running really rough and feels like it will die out when I start accelerating so I let off the gas and it eventually normals out. Once it normals out it won't do it again until I am sitting and idling for a few minutes.

It is giving codes P0134 and P0135 which would imply that my O2 sensors are bad.

Does this make sense to anybody?

Fuel pressure regulator and O2 sensors??

Someone... please help... Please...

Re: 05 GTP Issues...

It sounds like its dumping fuel, or you aren't properly burning fuel.

On a fuel injected car holding the throttle open while starting actually clears out fuel. If you flood it you are supposed to hold the throttle open and it will not start spraying fuel until it actually starts.

What could be causing that?

Re: 05 GTP Issues...

Well it could be the o2's. Or the o2's might just be freaking out because they are fuel soaked. Might also be the fuel pressure regulator is being bypassed somehow.

Re: 05 GTP Issues...

did you clean out your throttle body? They are very prone to carbon build up causing it to stall out alot especially when first starting. clean it out well, I use the valvoline throttle body spray, a microfiber cloth to get the bulk of the carbon out, then a bunch of q tips to get every crevice. also change out your pcv valve, cheap and easy. use rtv for the gasket unless the dealer has one in stock.

Re: 05 GTP Issues...

Thanks for the advice.

I have tried the cleaner and it gets better. But it seems like no matter how much cleaning I do it still has the issues after a few days.

When I start it sometimes it seems like its a lawn mower when you don't prime it enough to get enough gas in it to start.

Any of that sound familiar?

Re: 05 GTP Issues...

definately sounds like a fuel issue, regulator or pump.

did you just use the pour in injector cleaner or actually get in and clean the throttle plate?

Re: 05 GTP Issues...

How do I clean my throttle plates?

I don't know if i mentioned that the o2 sensors actually fixed the codes but I am still having that issue starting.

Re: 05 GTP Issues...

disconnect the air duct from the throttle body. you should be able to look inside the throttle body and see a butterfly plate. push open the throttle plate by hand and use the plastic end of a screw driver to hold it open. you should see all of the carbon build up around the plate and in the bore. I use valvoline throttle body cleaner but most others will do fine. spray liberally around all of the carbon, use some q-tips to agitate the stubborn stuff and use a microfiber cloth to wipe clean, repeat until shiny. you will also want to get some maf cleaner and clean the maf very well also. I will see if there is a write up on this in the tip section, if not I will do one tomorrow with some pictures.

Re: 05 GTP Issues...

Thanks for your help. I cleaned the throttle body and the MAF sensor. Now the car starts right up no problem!

Thanks again!
