2000 GTP issue with Coolant Temp Sensor
Hi Guys!
Ok, as most of you know I replaced my LIM gaskets and at the same time installed a ported and polished Lower Intake Manifold. Well, the P&P LIM came bare, so I had to install my own ECT sensor on it from the old LIM. So I did, and at the same time I cleaned the threads and applied some silicone RTV. Well, a month or so went by and I peered down along my LIM gaskets to check for leaks. I saw some coolant on the drivers side. Not some, but a lot. It was dripping from the ECT sensor threads. So, since its in such a crappy spot to get to after the LIM is installed that I decided to just replace it. I bought one from o'reilley's for 18.00, covered the threads in Red High Temp RTV, and put it in. It seemed good for a week or so, and then yesterday I took a rather long trip and when the car cooled, I decided to stick my hand down there and check for coolant. Well, you guessed it, its not leaking nearly as bad, but it is still damp down there. I think my problem is that the coolan keeps dripping from around the sensor as I thread the new one in. Causing the RTV to not set and cure properly and causing a leak. So, does anyone have any idea as to how I can get this to seal up? Whats the word on teflon tape, is that a no no? Anyone with any ideas? Thanks Guys!

Re: 2000 GTP issue with Coolant Temp Sensor
Teflon tape is ok just leave some of the threads exposed so that it properly grounds against the mainfold. That should seal the leak for you.

Sounds Good! Thank You Lynn!
Or else I was thinking about taking it out, cleaning it up, applying RTV and letting the RTV sit for an hour or so before I screw it into the manifold. That might help it not be so susseptible to the dripping coolant.
