98 Chrysler Sebring Convertible missfire
I have a 98 Chrysler Sebring Convertible, 2.5ltr v6.
It miss fires during low speed acceleration, once you get going it's basically ok, but when you first start out it misses REALLY bad. We put on a new distributor cap, checked the timing belt, has new plugs and wires, cleaned the iac, disconnected electric and vacuum on egr and still have the same problems. What else could it be??? |

Re: 98 Chrysler Sebring Convertible missfire
How many miles? Any codes? If you've got 150,000 miles or more, then plugs, wires, crankshaft position sensor, distributor top-end (which includes built-in camshaft position sensor) and a plugged EGR pipe (connects between EGR and intake manifold) can all contribute to the misfiring you describe.

Re: 98 Chrysler Sebring Convertible missfire
I am having the same problem. I have replaced the distributor cap, rotor and fuel filter. Still runs rough. I was spraying water on the engine to see if I had a short in the spark plug wires, but found none. However, I sprayed water on the EGR valve and the engine quit. I thought this was the issue, but when we started the vehicle, I was unable to reproduce, so I am still baffled.

Re: 98 Chrysler Sebring Convertible missfire
What's the DTC?
Is it a random misfire on a single cylinder? |

Re: 98 Chrysler Sebring Convertible missfire
I only got test codes for misfiring of cyclinders. I believe they wer 2, 3 and 5. I have reset and they have not come back.

Re: 98 Chrysler Sebring Convertible missfire
Random misfires on random cylinders -
Bad air filter Bad fuel filter Dirty, or bad MAF sensor Bad fuel pressure. Dirty throttle body. Plugged catalytic converter. Bad or dirty crank, or cam sensors. |
