Going nuts about nuts

I was getting tyres fitted to my GTR for registration when right in front of me the tyre guy used the wrong socket and completly stripped the edges off the nut! What an idiot!

Anyway I was not that concerned as we eventually got the nut off but now I need a new nut so they all match for Vicraods (registration place). The nuts are very rare and I can't find them anywhere here in Melbourne. Other ones don't fit as they are all 19mm and 21mm which is too big for the wheel and it needs the right taper to hold the wheel on.

They look similar to this but in 17mm which is the rare part. As far as I know they are the standard ones off my 1994 R32 GTR with standard 16" wheels. Help!

replacement nuts

Hey dude,

how about using a set of lock nuts?
They are reasonably cheap, they usually fit most cars, come in a huge range, and offer the added bonus of security... (to a point)

Yeah thats what I'm doing as I've given up on getting matching ones!

It should pass with lock nuts right? How strict are these people? I know they give any imported car a inspection for the compliance plate and tyres and stuff.

locknuts and legality

perhaps maintain the notion that locknuts are a common sense thing to have anyway, and seeing as most good wheel and tyre shops recommend them you should be fine.
(atleast that's how it is here in NZ)
