I have a '65 Fairlane 500. Use to have an automatic tranny and 2.72 gears in the rearend. I found a 3 speed w/ Overdrive in a '77 granada (with a 6 cylinder). Also a bellhousing from a '79 f150 (with a 302), along with the 10 inch clutch for the granada; Put it all together in my '65, and viola, great take off and low cruising RPM's too.

Re: Tranny swap (granada to Fairlane)
Same car; needed more electricity for add on components and lights. So a new 75 AMP GM alternator with internal regulator was bought and custom brackets and pulley were made and installed on drivers side along with a new battery. Now the charging system is almost tripled but still need a second fuse box for add ons.
Rear extra heavy springs were purchased from Husky Spring and installed last year, but now rear end of car sits too high, and longer shocks need to be installed. Gotta say; it will pull 45mph corners at 70mph now. did something right. |

Re: Tranny swap (granada to Fairlane)
Just installed Weiand "Stealth" 4-barrel intake, and Edelbrock 650 carb. This combo works beautifully. Built custom mufflers and mounted them to lower part of rocker panel. Preparing to mount "early Z-28 hood scoop" to hood and make useable too.

Re: Tranny swap (granada to Fairlane)
You can get a general picture of a 65 Ford Fairlane by going to www.google.com, and choosing an 'image' search. Then type in 1965 Ford Fairlane in the search block.
Fairlane was the name of the house/estate that Henry Ford built near Detroit in Michigan. You can now rent it for receptions and weddings. |
