ABS light on, TRAC light on, speedometer working at half speed

Pretty self-explanatory. Note that this happened about 2 months ago and went away after a month. Now its back and I figure it's here to stay this time so I better fix it. From all I've read it seems its either the VSS or one of the individual wheel sensors but I'll ask you guys who might have seen this already.

Note that I set the odometer to read speed in mph and it is also reading slow (ie-it's not a mechanical issue with the seedometer).

Thanks...Nick

It is sounding like a VSS issue.

On a 2001, can I get to it through the top of the enginge if I remove the canopy? Any pics would help.

Thanks...

Re: ABS light on, TRAC light on, speedometer working at half speed

I had mine replaced at a shop, since it failed on a trip far from home.
They accessed it from below, it is sort of above one of the catalytic converters on the back side of the transmission.
Mine is a '96, but I am betting the location of this item is the same on the newer windstars.
This would be an easy repair, except for the location.
If you are feeling around......and grip the speedometer cable.....follow it down to the end.....and you are there.
