Question 96 Cutlass Supreme brake problem

I'm looking at a 1996 olds cutlass supreme 4 door in decent shape 200,000 plus miles, runs good, but the ABS and Brake light on and by the rust on the rear disc the rear brakes are not working. I don't see any fluid leaking but my suspicion is that there's a leak and the proportioning valve is switched over to block fluid to the rear...

Anyone have any suggestions ???

the only way is to start checking the system, see whats froozen/rusted
by inspection.
check the brake fluid,if low/empty fill check for leaks
hows the pedal feel
scan the ABS system see what codes are stored
the basic have to done 1st
Good luck
btw you can spend alot,so make sure car is worth it

From what I recall, these cars are notorious for seized rear calipers, especially in the Rust Belt.
Anticipate new calipers, pads and rotors on the back, along with whatever other repair is needed.

Spot on perfect! The parking brake mechanism is built into the caliper. Absolutely the WORST design for rear disc brakes. The sad part of it is, even when you replace all of the parts, it'll do the same thing in a matter of months.
