New Strut Assemblies - Holes Too Small?

So, as I noted in another thread I had a broken front spring and decided to replace both front strut assemblies. Pretty easy job, about 90 minutes total time. Car also needed new front tires so it's now at the shop for those and an alignment.

Just got a call from the shop advising they can't adjust the alignment because the holes in the lower strut mounts are too small. No room at all to move it around. So they have to take out the bolts and make the holes bigger. Anyone else hear of this ever happening? I guess I was a bit surprised when the bolts fit so tightly as well. I had marked the knuckle but once the bolts were through it wasn't moving.

Got Leacree struts off rockauto. It was the same brand the shop tried to sell me for much more installed. Something to watch out for with this brand, I guess.

Also, I got the dreaded SVS, trac off, abs lights as I was driving to the shop. I'm thinking I hit a sensor connection with the bottom of the strut when removing or mounting them. I sure hope that's what it is. Shop wanted $85 for diagnostics. Told them no thanks.

Edit: Did some online digging and I'm finding that lots of folks have to get their struts "slotted" to adjust camber. Now, I'm not sure why it's off when the parts fit only one way...

Re: New Strut Assemblies - Holes Too Small?

Elongating the strut holes to adjust camber is common practice. But a camber kit should be used that has the eccentric bolts for easier future adjustment.
