This van is a 2001 Silhouette, I'm loosing grease from the front passenger side CV Joint Boot, but I dont have any sounds while turning.
I do have a hum or growl , roaring sound coming from the front passenger side while Im driving, when braking to a stop, I also have low, tic, tic, tic, tic, sound til the van make the stop coming from the same area. -How can I know, that the CV Joint is still good.? any symptoms -If the problem is the Hub, can I buy only one side or have to be done both.? My budget is very low(like many others), to tell you guy's, that I'm facing the possibilty to use parts from the local junk yard. Thank You for any response to my questions.

Re: CV Joint and/or Hub Assembly.?
You can get a boot kit for the leaking driveshaft. So long as the shaft is tight, with no sign of wear or damage, you can repack the joint with grease from the kit and install a new boot. Consider doing both boots on that ine driveshaft, though. Imo if one is gone the other is not far behind.
As for the roaring sound, that sounds like a bad wheel bearing/hub. It's fine to just replace one side. If you are planning to keep the van for a long time, go for a new hub. Imo it's not worth the hassle to mess with used hubs because you don't know how much life they have left. |

Re: CV Joint and/or Hub Assembly.?
What is the most common cause that a front Hub assembly go bad.?
Thinking , It could be the curb that I hit triyng to park my van over a icy road that hit (strong hit) the passenger side. otherwise what could be other reason to this part go bad.? So far the cheapiest store where I found this part starts with $90, any suggestion of sites in were I could find more cheap? For the CV joint Boot kit, is more easy to buy it prizes are from $18 to $20 bucks for the kit. Thank's. |
