Re: need help... Front Hub assemblies and U-joints

This is not a bad job. Worst part is getting the hub out of the knuckle. Use spare bolts to take the swing press blows from the back side of the hub so the 12pt heads don't get damaged onthe originals.

If the cv joints are bad, just replace the axles with re-man ones. for the extra work it would take to do the replacement yourself, they are worth it.

If they are the regular u-joints, go for the work yourself.

just follow the diagrams in your manual and torque the bolts to spec.

Re: need help... Front Hub assemblies and U-joints

EAsy job, you'll need either an impact gun or a breaker bar and pipe to get the front hub axle nut loose. The nut is a 36mm, the 12 pts are a 13mm socket. The torques are 175-hub nut, 75- hub bolts (ft.lbs) The torques are critical, have a good torque wrench to get it right, or you'll be changing out assemblies.

Here is a write up a friend of mine and I did. It shows how to replace the hub bearing but doesn't show the process of changing the u-joint. If you can get the hub bearing changed you should be able to figure out how to change the u-joint.
hub bearing write up

Buy Spicer joints, not cheap "mart mart" stuff. The additional $5 for spicers is worht it.

Let me know if you have any questions.
