B16 vs Nissan SE-R
Hi,
I recently raced my friends 02' Nissan Sentra Se-r with 165 hp 2.5 liter engine. I was driving my 90' Honda Civic LX with a short ram intake ![]() I knew I wasnt gonna win but it was fun anyways, lets just say he easily took my car. Well anyways, he started saying that there is no possible way my civic could ever beat his se-r. I was thinking though if I was to drop a B16 in there with a SI tranny would I have a chance. With a intake and cat-back exhaust? The B16 puts out 160 hp right. The 4dr civic weighs less than the Se-r and his is an Automatic mines a Stick. Thanks, Owen

You'll take him easily. My friend has them brand new ones also and his is manual and still beat him!

a definite swap is in your future, just so you can destroy him.
do the swap and dont tell him about it, say you got a new engine mod, and you wanna see if your any faster, than just walk all over him.

Why would the dude buy a Sentra SE-R with a slushbox
![]() Yeah man...you can't bolt a d-series tranny (DX/LX, HF, Si or ZC) tranny to the B16. It requires a b-series tranny, and those b-series guys call them buy numbers and shit - like S1, and J1 and ABCDEFG123456. But since you're new to this stuff, everyone is here to help you and remind you. You would prolly want to say, "if I got a b16 with Si-R tranny would I smoke him?"So, if you were to get an Si-R engine & tranny (b16 w/ S1 I think ), yes, you'd mnost definitely smoke his pansy-ass. :smoka: There are lots of different B-series trannies, just like d-series, but all US d-series trannies are designated L3 (DX, HF, Si) - I dunno what the ZC tranny is designated as, but it's bell housing and stuff lines up. So all you b-series nuts, can you help us b-series newbies with which b-series tranny is which? i.e. S1 = came with X, J1 = came with X, etc.. Thanks

Aiight thanx guys.
You really give me some new inspiration. The only problem now is CASH, lol. How much will it cost to get a new engine and tranny put in my LX? Thanks, Owen

That depends...Speed always costs money..how fast do you want to go?
![]() A ZC costs about $500 - however, an ECU and associated parts (water pump, timing belt, misc hoses etc..) and optional tranny (your LX will bolt up, but not maximize the acceleration potential the ZC offers) may run up to $1000+ total. A b16 costs about the same for a bare bones engine - however, you NEED a tranny, ECU, mounts, and all the same associated misc. stuff...so $1500+ or so there. www.hmotorsonline.com - try this for motors. there are lots of resources...start reading http://tech.hybridgarage.com/tech/4gtech/index.html

XSi/S1 has better ratios to get off the mark. Y1 - well, I like it for general cruising etc

Only from the 92 XSi which also has the B16a(2), same engine and g/box thats in the EG SiR Civic. And then theres the very rare YS1 which is in the RSi Integra, and I believe the USDM GSR integra from 91 only.

So...is the rare YS1 a good tranny? I think that a compormise between performance (short gears & high revving) and low freeway RPMs is the way to go. Who wants their engine spinning at 4,000+ RPM all the time? That would get loud.
So the S1 is the quick acceleration and the Y1 is better for cruising. What about the J1 - where does it fall in relation to those two? I am guessing it is geared a li'l taller since it came out of the XSi and isn't the S1
