68 firebird suspension swap, neeed tech help

im building a 68 firebird and want to know if the front spindles and rear end out 0f a 79 will work without a lot of fabrication. i have a 79 with the ws6 package and want to put it under the 68 since the 79 isnt restorable. has anyone done this before?

The distance between the top and bottom ball joints is about 1 1/2" longer than the early spindles. It creates a geometry problem for the upper arms.

The rear is a little wider, IIRC, but not insurmountable. The rear discs are great. Add front discs, for sure, though. Master Power offers a real nice "kit" for the 1st gen 'bird. Anythig from a '69 Camaro or '69-'74 Nova, Ventura, Apollo or Omega will also "fit". Take spindles, rotors, calipers, et al. There were a handful of '67s made with the Kelsey-Hayes 4-piston caliper system. You MIGHT "get lucky" and find one.

how far off is the rear? will it physically bolt up or will i have to modify the brackets? i want to make sure this is going to be as easy as possible so i know whether or not its worth the time and effort.

should bolt right just measure the spring mounting distance.you have more than you think quick steering box but swap the arm,anti sway bars much better,spindles use different ball joint use ones from 79 also because of being taller will need more shims I go to home depot get a piece of bar stock drill for the studs so i am only using a few shims much safer.do your self a favor replace your front springs at the same time or your front end will drop about 1-1 1/2 inches.its probly all ready droped that much already just from age.almost forgot outer tie rod ends again get ones for the 79.you will not believe the differance.you will need to change your master cylinder for 4 wheel disc with the proportioning valve again the 79 will work.hope this answers your question.
