2K clear over clear plastic?

Hi,
I am building the Tamiya 936 Porsche and want to know if I can fix the clear plastic headlight covers in place before I put Zero 2K clear on it?
Does anyone know if the 2K clear will affect the clear plastic?
Many thanks, Steve.

It shouldn't, but try on scrap piece to be sure.

Re: 2K clear over clear plastic?

As Spider says, testing first on clear sprue would be wise.
However, I'm wondering why you'd want to. I'd be afraid clear on body and covers would fill the parting lines in an unrealistic way and make it look 'glazed over'.
I prefer to mask the light openings, shoot the bodywork clear and then when the model is near complete, dip the clear parts in Future. Let dry a day, and mount using tweezers.
Of course then I spray tire and road muck all over everything but that's just me...

Re: 2K clear over clear plastic?

Hi Chas,
to be honest the model is a huge dissapointment. what I want to do is highlight the panel lines and cover the whole thing in clear then apply some medium to heavy race weathering. This one will go to the back of the display cabinet!
The decals frizzled up a bit using Micro-sol, not too bad but not good either. I want to get all the decals on including the black surrounds on the light covers, then apply clear, it will make it easier for me to achieve the finish I have in mind. I will test some clear sprue first, as suggested by you and Spider.
Just hoping I can save this one!
Thanks Gents,
Steve.

There is no more room in the back of mine for 'disappointments'...
I understand what you're trying to do with the clear overlay for later weathering and it makes sense.
Test the 2K and if it works on the car let us know with a pic or two.
Best luck with a tough kit.

Re: 2K clear over clear plastic?

Before clearing, you could mask the headlight covers with Blu-Tak or another poster tack. That yellow stuff from Michaels works well.
