recall wait

has anyone put their winstar in for recall and if so how long are you expecting it back, mine has been in since september and still nothing . i just keep getting that it will be a few weeks.dont mind but i have to pay the tax which is roughly 70bucks a month for the rental which my wife does not complain but she does miss her bettsy.lol i do see about 30 or so other winnies there so it may be a long wait.mine was the first but i think the dealership is doing their friends and family first. what ford should have done with their offer was to let people get the financing on a used ford with the van as a say 5k down payment as we know times are tough with money but ford would make out by getting rid of used inventory and the winstars that may give them more headaches down the line.ok all done venting for now until i start thing again about this.

Re: recall wait

My rear axle wasn't cracked but my subframe is. I didn't get a loaner and was told that ford will send me a post card when the parts are availble sometime in march or april..

Re: recall wait

@kvn4, You should not be paying the taxes on your rental. Ford modified the rental term to cover the taxes. See the 3rd bullet under "Important Notes" in this document: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/do...0V385-5861.pdf

Re: recall wait

I have 99' Windstar. Bought van new in 1999 and had very few problems with it until latest recalls. I have been driving a 2010 Edge from Enterprise since Nov. 17,2010. Just received a buy back offer for van from Ford. It failed inspections for both latest corrosion recalls. Had a dime sized hole in back axle and front subframe was badly rusted. I will take offer because it is about double what van books for. Ford has paid entire cost of rental for 3 months I have used rental. We put about 4,000 miles on Edge. Now I am in market for replacement. Probably not another Ford van. Total cost to Ford was about $7,000. Best of luck to all Windstar recall victims. This is an excellent forum with most helpful members and moderators. It saved me some bucks and downtime.

What was your buy back offer on the 99? How many miles?

A little over $3700. Had approximately 165,000 miles. Had really good luck with van except for racalls.

This is directly from the recall notice: A SEPARATION OF A FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM REAR ATTACHING BRACKET MAY RESULT IN A LOWER CONTROL ARM SEPARATION. A SEPARATION OF BOTH FRONT SUBFRAME REAR BODY MOUNTS MAY RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. I'm not sure exactly what parts are involved, but at least the lower control arm apparently. Hope this helps.

Re: recall wait

My local dealership called today, they picked up and dropped off after replacing rear axle assy. Brakes seem a tad soft after repair. Suspect they backed off the shoes to pull drum, don't think they needed to open any brake lines as they probably hung the whole plate while replacing axle. They did say mine passed the front subframe inspection, but Ford may issue some type of fix for those that also pass.

I'd bleed them anyway just to make sure.
