Talking Its a import...wait no its a domestic..no wait...

I have know about this for a while but didnt know if too many people know about it here on AF. There is an outfit in cali that does the mother of all engine swaps...a 302 5.0L Ford Mustang engine into a Mazda Miata!!! They also do the swap and throw on a Kenne Bell Supercharger adding 6.5 psi of boost, creating 400hp & 375 foot-pounds of torque. Along with the swap goes a Ford T-5 tranny, and an axle and differential from an RX-7 and flared fenders to hold the 245/24/R16 tires, and brakes from an RX-7 allowing 60-0 times in less than 120ft. The Motor only weighs 250lbs more that then stock 4banger; so how does 400hp sound in a 2200lb car??

Here are some numbers from the supercharged car:

0-60 times

Monster Miata: 4.2
Farrell RX-7: 4.4
Dodge Viper: 4.5
Vortech Mustang: 4.6
Stillen 300ZX: 4.7
Morrison Camaro: 4.8
RSA Supra: 4.9
Corvette ZR-1: 5.2

Quarter Mile Times

Monster Miata: 12.6/111.6
Farrell RX-7: 12.9/111.2
Vortch Mustang: 13.0/109.7
Morrison Camaro: 13.0/109.3
RSA Supra: 13.1/113.1
Stillen 300ZX: 13.1/111.9
Dodge Viper: 13.2/112.1

I think the numbers speak for themselves, but how fun would it be to spank a viper in a Miata!! There isnt really a point to non supercharged convertion, as I saw a turbo miata kill a non-supercharged V8 miata in a race after our local clubs meeting one night. The V8 took the turbo off the line, but once in boost, the turbo miata took him.

Personally I would have picked a better engine.

Is THICK ass roll cage on that list of mods they do??

Yeah, i dunno, i like the idea, especially on a miata, i mean, nobody expects a miata to be like BAM! gone....so, its all good....

How much would that cost?!

I disagree. The good old 5.0 is a relatively small engine that can be built for big horsepower. I think the numbers above are also a little off. A vortech'd mustang is going to run quicker than 13 sec. in the 1/4mile unless whoever drove was horrendous, or they just smoked the tires completely off the car.

I would have to agree about the numbers. As for the engine, don't get me wrong the 5.0 is a great engine. But IMO there are better small blocks you could choose. But come to think about it I am a little biased.

Doesnt the Dodge Viper at 13.2/112.1 seem a bit slow? That kind of trap speed would usually be a quicker time. ah well. A miata that fast would be like straping a rocket to your ass.

a lot of those times seem a little high...the Viper usually does about 4 flat to 60, and the ZR-1 does about 4.8. Not sure about the others...that is still one awesome miata

The Viper usually runs 12.1's or 12.2' not 13.2's.
