90 SC Flashing headlights/odometer

1990 Thunderbird SC 3.8L Supercharged

While driving the car with the headlights on after about 5 minutes or so the lights will start flashing on and off uncontrollable. flashing stops when lights are turned off and only continues after being on for 5 min.

Thought i could be a short but im not too sure.

The odometer stopped, opened it up and found the plastic gear inside with some broken spokes. replaced it with another plastic gear for it to only happen again. any idea on replacing it or after marketing it, i don't care which i just need it fixed

Sounds like it's time to replace the headlight switch. You haven't added any other lights to the circuit have you? You will probably have to replace the speedometer cable also. Disconnect the cable at both ends and try to turn it. It should spin freely with no binding.

If you installed higher wattage bulbs then stock that could be your problem.

Re: 90 SC Flashing headlights/odometer

I have been having the exact same problem with my 93' LX. I have installed higher wattage headlights though... strange thing is that it's only the lows that flash, the hi-beams work completely fine. Guessed that it may have been a switch, any luck on fixing this problem?
