steering

1999 regal......My power steering was acting up so I checked the fluid level. Level OK Still every once in a while it got hard to turn. Now it seems like there is no power steering when I am turning left only. Is there some kind of directional valve going bad in the PS pump or what? No obstuctions around the wheels..........Any help greatly appreciated...........JOE

Click here for other thread on same discussion

Other than that I am asuffering the same problem but
I am hard headed and don't believe its all rack and pinion because mine is not leaking fluid and gets hard headed at times like me. BUT the gears are not destroyed at all. I keep jacking with it and making it worst. But I switched out the fluid to lucas power steering. No problems, but I and now discovering an air leak, but NO FLUID. So tomorrow I will keep investigating. But I have cleaned everything with solvent, but this snow is slowing me down and getting me sick.

Today though I am to the point that it may be a hose it may not. But as soon as the sun raises, I am putting the car on jack stands and removing my tires and bellows boots and checking the entire system. I just replaced my steering pump couple days ago. But that made it worst. So "I BELIEVE" its an air problem. :runar ound: I will continue, but you must tell all sytoms you are having. CLICK HERE FOR THE RACK AND PINION PROBLEM TREE This site is the reason also I am failing to believe my rack and pinion are bad on my 99 Regal!!!

BINGGGGOOOOO!!!!

It is not the rack and pinion. People are feed wrong information everywhere. So I gave in and went to a NAPA Automotive shop. Talk to them and they looked at it. Comes out that the strut bushing mounts SIEZED up. So I said haaa yall fix it lol.... So they are replacing all my suspension because it is waaaay to cold here in lovely kansas and I dont have the special tools to not jack up the alignment anymore than I have. So I am paying them $600 to redo it all both left and right side. My Regal will be ready in the morning!

The worst it can get is, you will have to drive just to turn other than that you cant turn at all while sitting because the bearings are shot!
