Is this really $1250 worth of damage?? Help!

The other night I backed into my friend's Toyota Sienna (going less than 5 mph) and gave it a decent dent. He took it to a body shop and the estimate was $1250, which I find a bit excessive for something like this. He also said that his "family friend" did the estimate and that was the price for only parts no labor..

Do you guys think I could find a cheaper alternative to $1250 of body work?
$700 was for the paint job alone. The white on the front bumper I apparently did (no idea how, I hit him with the very corner of my car and I don't have a single mark), but could that just be buffed out or something?

What about paintless dent removal and then touching it up?

Also, if we were to do this through insurance, would my rates be affected?

Any help is appreciated, I'm broke as fuck and can't afford this so any money I can save is a plus.

I recently dealt with a smiliar situation but the damae was much worse than this because it included a door. However, I was told that the work was more extensive because sometimes an entire part has to be repainted in order for it to macth. While that makes sense, what many don't realize is that sometimes this part can be a fender that is integrated with a pillar and can go as for as the roof itself.

My total for a damaged door, wheel cover, and a fender was roughly $2600, if that helps.

Have them do a drug test 1st, because they sound high!
Is it just the right fender damaged, and the lower bumper scratched?

Check with a dent + scratch Dr!
Get a price for the dent removal only.

http://www.expresspaint.com , they can match your paint by code and put it into a 16oz spray can.

Re: Is this really $1250 worth of damage?? Help!

I work in the field and if that is the estimate for just the parts and no labor you are going to pay too much. 1200 is about standard for that type of job but it should include labor.
I'm guessing they are going to replace the fender since you said there were 'parts' costs. If they replace it they will have to paint the whole fender and blend the color into the door as well meaning more labor. Not to mention removing the bumper, fender, inner wheel liner and headlight.

Pretty standard job...

I agree, there must be some mistake. That sounds high for parts only. I would probably replace the fender and repair the bumper cover...however, it is hard to tell from a pic. I would request that he get another estimate from another shop. Is the paint time and material included in the $1250?
