Help Please? Oil gasket leak...

Hi,

My 2001 VW Passat 6 cylinder, has a leak from the oil pan. A German auto servicer told me it was a $600 fix (including labor) and I would like to try to fix it myself, as it only has to do with the oil housing. I forgot what they said it was exactly but it is the oil housing gasket (you can visually see it) and a plug or some kind of small piece in the lower back area of the oil housing (forgot that name as well). I have a service manual but cannot seem to find these parts in it. I can get the parts from the dealer...is there any way I can find a "how to" schematic for this?
