1929 Chevy Inline Six - Valve Gap
Hi All,
How do I find information on the valve gaps for the Chevy inline six motors from 1929? A heavy search on the internet turned up nothing. Thanks in advance. |

Much appreciated Max. You wouldn't happen to know an official source, would ya? This is work-related.

I just finished one of these engines for a customer, he had a oe shop manual very rudimentary though.

Re: 1929 Chevy Inline Six - Valve Gap
I have a 32 Chevy, and set the valve clearance about .001" or .002" looser than the manual said to on both intake and exhaust. (I also have the OEM little manual but I cant remember what the stated values were).
It did exactly what I wanted it to; easy starting when the engine was hot, at the cost of a little bit of valve noise. At a Chevy club meet, each time I started it I would have guys in the area ask me what I did to have it start so well. The same trick works on the Mopar flathead sixes of the early 50's, and the Hudson Hornet flat sixes. |
