I'd be interested in finding out what I can do to get some more power and acceleration out of my straight six. I know it's a work truck, but still, it only gets 150 HP? What is up with that?

bore it 90 over, dual exausts, (yes you can get headers) edelbrock intake and a holly 750 double pumper. oh and advanced timeing kit for the dist. that should do it. IT'S A TRUCK, IF YOU WANT TO GO FAST BUY A MUSTANG!

I don't know alot about the I6's but 90 over won't that make the cylinder walls to thin. And a 750 DP aren't all the I6's EFI. Also wouldn't that be a header with a Y pipe not headers.

Exclamation Re: 300 CID inline six owners, band together

Try looking into this web site i happened to find called 'clifford performance'(you'll have to google search it, but it'll come right up.) these guys have been in the hot rodding scene since the 1950's and have been building racing motors out of the "big sixes" ever since. In fact back in the 1950's they used to race a 1949 hudson hornet powered by a 300 inline six and it dominated the v8 cars of those days on the track. As far as a y-pipe goes don't listen to the "v-8's only" guys ;clifford performance offers "true dual" exhaust headers for your truck.check out their gallery; they've got a 300 inline 6 that puts out 418 ft lbs of tourque! And great pics to make you feel better about your ride! Check it out ,you'll want to thank me for it...

Re: 300 CID inline six owners, band together

On trucks horse power isn't the rating you should be concerned with, the "torque" output is what really matters with trucks hauling heavy loads, as was already said if you want to go fast buy a Mustang. The old 77 F-250 camper special I used to have had the 460CID engine with an ungodly amount of torque but it red lined at 3,800rpms and speed wise with the gearing it had it topped out at 108mph.
