Blend door actuator

I am trying to fix the heat in the front of my 99 Windstar. I have put in a new blend door actuator but I do not see the shaft turning when I moved the temp. switch from side to side. Anyone else tackled this issue?

In fact I just installed one today in a 2001 Windstar. The guy's van I replaced it in moved up from Florida to Wisconsin. Found out just how important a heater was. He was going to get it fixed in Florida but the repair shop guy said it would cost around $800. I have to take the whole dash apart and even move the steering column out of the way the guy said. Boy was he trying to rip him off or what. Using the instructions in this forum it took me about 1.25 hours total at a cost of $48. and change for the part.

Anyway back to your problem. When I first pulled the old one out I did the test to see if it was actually broke. When it turned it would hit a spot where there must have been teeth broken on the internal gears. It would make a clicking sound while the shaft would kinda pulse instead of revolve. When I went to install the new one I noticed the shaft was not oriented in the correct position so I hooked it up and with the hot/cold slider I turned the shaft so it lined up with the position of the blend door in its (home) position. Then everything lined up fine. And we now have heat. The look on his face was priceless when he realized I fixed it for less than $50.

I didn't encounter any problems. Maybe someone else has had similar issues as you. I sounds like there could be something in the hot/cold switch that is broke. Good luck.

Thanks, I hope its something simple I would hate to have to take it somewhere and get the run around. I believe it may be the hot/cold slide.
